As a MacNeal family medicine resident, I know that when I graduate, I am going to be thoroughly trained to provide a full scope of family medicine care and be prepared to pursue my personal interests in medicine. My husband is a podiatry resident in Chicago, so I was looking for a family medicine residency in Chicago that was at a community hospital and unopposed. The one thing all the residents said during my interview at MacNeal was that the Family Medicine Faculty and Staff were incredible: dedicated to teaching, kind and non-judgmental. My interests in medicine include: Women’s Health, Geriatrics, and Pediatrics. I had the opportunity to do my 3rd year family medicine rotation at a Spanish-speaking clinic in nearby Cicero, and found the patient interactions to be challenging and meaningful. I felt since the start of residency that the faculty, residents, and staff were all very supportive and dedicated in working with each other and patients. Outside of medicine my interests include: I enjoy being outside exploring new neighborhoods or hiking in state parks. A big plus is that since MacNeal is located so close to the city of Chicago, we see a wide variety of people from different socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. I felt that MacNeal would provide a supportive environment that would allow me to expand my knowledge, learn from caring and committed mentors, and create the attitude and approach to medicine I hope to have in the future. There was a lot of laughter, support and friendliness in the atmosphere. MacNeal offers full spectrum family medicine training that provides a well rounded framework for all of its graduates. The inviting atmosphere of friendly residents, faculty, and staff amazed me during interview day. Most importantly, everyone at my interview from the security guard to the Program Director spoke persuasively about the special sense of community at MacNeal.
